The first day at Serres Rally gave the riders the perfect setting for a perfect start. Last years’ winner Stefan Svitko with his KTM XC 450 finish in 1st place with Wesley Pittens with a YAMAHA WR 450 a 1’20” behind him and Roberto Barbieri with his HUSQVARNA FE 501 closing 3rd place
Today’s stage took the riders through routes of dried out streams and off road paths leading them up the mountain top and back down to wide dirt roads for full gas madness.
The women riders of Serres also showed the class today with Gabriela Novotna and her HUSQVARNA FE 450 taking 1st place, 2nd to finish the stage was the Greek rider Polytimi Kyriakopoulou also with a HUSQVARNA FE 450 and 3rd place was Zornitsa Todorova with a HUSQVARNA FE 350.
This year a surprise entry was waiting for Serres Rally as Rainer Autenrieth showed up with an electric bicycle ready to race. His main goal was to end the stage and be the first rider to take part in Serres Rally with a different type of vehicle for the future of Rally Raid events.
Night at Serres Rally for Day 1 is also the ceremonial start which is held in the center of of Serres city. A massive crowd gathered and the fans got to see and talk to the riders up close.
Tomorrow the riders will tackle SS2 Flat Track Vertiskos and SS3 Golden Mountain
